As the 2008 race season comes to a close for Nevahome Kennels we can't be thankful enough. As we work all year to prepare we think will it ever get here, and as we are in the dead heat of it we think will we make it through, and as it ends we think we have to wait 10 more months to do it again. Its truly and addiction, a way of life, a curse, and most importantly a love for the dogs!
Mitch could not have been happier with his puppy team this year, Their first big ride and first race was to the Beargrease what an experience for them. Unfortunately with 3 females in heat and not a strong enough front end he had to pull out 130 miles into the race. With another go of it at the up200 he again had leader trouble and had to scratch. They raced the Greenville 100 and the Can-Am 60 and had a great time. All in all for pups he couldn't have asked more from them.
As for Musher Matt, 2008 was a great year with 3rd place a the Beargrease 5th place at the up200 and another 3rd at the Can-Am. Within these three races the dogs and Matt experienced everything from 38 degrees and raining to 52 degrees below (with the wind) all within a 36 hour period, to 12-14 inches of fresh snow and he did all this with no physical injuries and the same incredible 12 dogs! Matt also was awarded the best kept team award this year at the Beargrease an honor that left him speechless. At Nevahome dog care has always been a top priority, and to have a team of Vets notice this and present you with such and honor is by far more rewarding than any 1st place trophy.
We had alot of people who contributed to this race season that we cant thank enough. Our sponsors, our familys, friends and most importantly the dogs, So from the bottom of our hearts we say THANKS!!!!
